1 st PPM CASE WRITING COMPETITION

Pada tahun ini, untuk pertama kalinya PPM School of Management menyelenggarakan kegiatan kompetisi penulisan kasus. Tujuan kompetisi adalah mendorong dan mempromosikan pengembangan bahan pengajaran berbasis kasus yang berkualitas tinggi dan relevan dengan perkembangan praktek manajemen dan bisnis khususnya untuk konteks Indonesia. Tujuan lainnya adalah untuk mengembangkan kemampuan menulis kasus dari akademisi maupun praktisi manajemen dan bisnis di Indonesia.

KRITERIA

Kasus yang dikompetisikan harus berdasarkan situasi nyata di Perusahaan yang ada di Indonesia dilengkapi dengan teaching note dan release statement

PERSYARATAN

1. Peserta mewakili institusi pendidikan (akademisi) atau bisnis (praktisi)
2. Tim terdiri dari maksimal tiga orang
3. Kasus yang dikirimkan belum pernah dipublikasikan sebelumnya dalam bentuk apapun

The 4th PPM Business Case Competition “Lead Transformation Through Innovation” re-generate a new champion

PPM Business Case Competition (BCC) is an annual competition event organized by Research Center and Case Clearing House (RC-CCH) PPM School of Management. This is the fourth year for the BCC that this time the theme “Lead Transformation Through Innovation”. The participants challenged participants to solve a case of PT. SOSRO JOY TEA GREEN TEA.

The participants consisting of bachelor degree (S1) students from Java regions presented innovative and strategic ideas that can make a company more superior than its competitors. This activity was participated by 65 teams, proving that this competition is highly attractive to relevant students. Among 61 teams registering and presenting analyses/researches on the case provided, only 9 teams became finalists and competed in the final session (debate and question & answer sessions) to be the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4^th, and 5^th winners, which was held on 23 May 2013 at PPM School of Management, Jalan Menteng Raya No. 9-19 Jakarta Pusat.

In the final round, the finalists were tested for their case analyses, case originality levels, and certainly connection between their cases and theories. Other aspects calculated were teamwork, team ability to provide answer or explanation to other teams or the jury (in Debate and Question-and-Answer sessions).

The result of final assessment determined the winners as follow:

1st Winner: Universitas Indonesia (Ahmad Adi Suhendra; Wahyu Jatmiko, dan M. Fathul Aziz Anshori)

2nd Winner: Institut Pertanian Bogor (Nurjaelani Sidik; Edelia Marselina; dan Eka Pratiwi)

3rd Winner: Universitas Padjajaran (Fennicia Auliantika Rossianti; Irsyad Kamal, dan Ahmad Fikri)

4th Winner: PPM School of Management (Dhia Salaml Anesya Mascita Putri; dan Felicia Kurniadi Malik)

5^th Winner: Universitas Bakrie (Firman Ardiansyah; Desi Purnamasari; dan Surya Pratama)

The winners received cash prizes, for the first winner Rp 7.500.000; the second winner Rp. 6.000.000; the third winner Rp 4.500.000, the fourth winner Rp 3.000.000, and the fifth winner Rp. 2.000.000,- no less interesting was scholarship Rp 10,000,000 to continue Master of Management study at the Wijawiyata Manajemen -PPM School of Management program.

Pengalaman pembelajaran dapat muncul dari berbagai bentuk dan metode. Namun, berbagai metode pembelajaran hampir tidak ada yang membahas secara holistik, praktis, dan membutuhkan keterlibatan yang tinggi seperti pembelajaran studi kasus. Pembelajaran studi kasus memberikan realita permasalahan bisnis yang dihadapi perusahaan. Studi kasus juga memberikan pembelajaran mengenai tantangan yang dihadapi oleh manajer perusahaan, sekaligus mengajarkan ketajaman dalam menilai situasi bisnis. Metode ini menawarkan pembelajaran yang kaya akan pengambilan keputusan yang kompleks yang dihadapi oleh perusahaan. Metode kasus merupakan cara pembelajaran yang efektif untuk setiap orang yang sedang belajar permasalahan bisnis dan solusinya tanpa harus menghabiskan waktunya.

Simposium kasus merupakan wadah bagi akademisi dan praktisi yang berminat dalam mengembangkan metode studi kasus ini. Melalui simposium ini, peserta akan mendapatkan pengetahuan dan perkembangan terkini mengenai kasus manajemen yang berkualitas dari berbagai pandangan.

PPM School of Management held PPM NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF MANAGEMENT RESEARCH VI “Potential Local Competitive Advantanges : Indonesia’s Assets in Facing Global Competition” as a place in which the researchers, who play a role in development of sciences, present their findings and thoughts needed to be known by professionals, practicioners, and academicians to develop their organizations.

This conference was held on Wednesday, 28 November 2012, at the second floor of Gedung Bina Manajemen and was attended by practitioners, lecturers, and students (S1, S2, and S3) from universities around Indonesia including among others PPM School of Management; Universitas Gadjah Mada; ABFI Perbanas Institute Jakarta; Sampoerna School of Business; Universitas Surabaya; Universitas Pertanian Bogor; Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta; Universitas Diponegoro; Staffs of Balai Penelitian Kehutanan Mataram, NTB; Universitas Bina Darma; AMIK Bina Sriwijaya Palembang; STIM Nitro Makasar; Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Surabaya; Universitas Ciputra; Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember; and Institut Manajemen Telkom.

To attract participants to register for this conference, the committee also held City Tour “Amazing Heritage Betawi” program on Thursday, 29 November 2012. The tourist object offered to the conference participants was Kota Tua (Old City) by visiting Museum Bank Indonesia (Bank Indonesia Museum), Museum Wayang (Puppet Museum), Museum Fatahilah (Fatahilah Museum), and Setu Babakan.

Students of STM PPM’s Master of Management Program Won Again in The 3rd PPM Regional Business Case Competition

Regional Business Case Competition (RBCC) is a yearly competitive event held by Research Center and Case Clearing House (RC_CCH) of PPM School of Management. This was the third year for RBCC which at that time carried the theme “Integrating Market and Competence-Based advantages for Sustainability”.

So far, RC-CCH has generated a lot of local business cases while maintaining reference to changes in the global business world. The business cases were then used as teaching materials, both in formal education and in various management trainings, not only benefited by PPM School of Management but also by other management education organizations, at national and international levels.

Several companies whose business cases have been presented include PT Garuda Indonesia (aviation service company), PT Tempo Inti Media (magazine and newspaper publishing company), Cipaganti Group (holding company beginning from transportation services and now starting to have businesses in mining and sea transportation services), TIKI JNE (delivery service company), and PT Tiga Pilar Sejahtera (food company).

The competition participants were challenged to solve a case of PT. Taman Impian Jaya Ancol. In this activity, the groups of S2 students of Management Science study program from various universtities in South East Asia and China used knowledges, skills, and experiences they have obtained during their study in their respective schools to compete in the quality of analysis, synthesis, and presentation of a business case tha has never been published before. The finalists of the competitions were tested not only for written analysis skill but also in a series of debate sessions among finalists and in business presentations in front of business practitioners and academicians to defend their ideas.

Results of The 3rd PPM RBCC 2012

Like the previous year’s event, this RBCC 2012 was also participated by teams from neighbouring countries, including Asian Institute of Management Philippines, Kasetsart Business School Thailand, University of Philippines Baguio, and Universiti Teknologi MARA Malaysia. The attendance of these foreign universities is a proof that the RBCC program held by PPM School of Management has been recognized by international academician communities, and is a very good opportunity to show international communities the existence of business schools in Indonesia and how local business community takes part and performs as the best with all of the wisdom of Indonesian typical business governance.

Meanwhile, domestically this RBCC 2012 was participated by Prasetiya Mulya Business School, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Tarumanegara, ITB, PPM School of Management, and Universitas Surabaya.

In the final round, the finalists were tested for their case analyses, case originality levels, and certainly connection between their cases and theories. The 2^nd PPM Case Symposium held in 4 July 2012 was a place for participating students, practitioners, academicians, and public participants to share information on usage and development of management cases in Indonesia.

This event presented Sari Wahyuni and Johari Zein as the speakers. The speakers shared information on management case making including its usage and benefits that can be taken through management case writing.

This event was attended by participants from 23 institutions with various backgrounds and 12 management cases were presented here. Through the 2^nd PPM Case Symposium, participants gained knowledge and information on the newest development on management cases which in turn would be useful in business schools. In addition, the participants had the opportunities to present results of case writings in front of emminent academicians and practitioners and to increase insight and analysis abilities on management cases and ability to contribute to management case development in Indonesia.

The symposium was also useful for corporate practitioners interested in contributing to the ernrichment of local cases for management learning process in Indonesia. In addition, the practitioners had also the opportunities to get information on management cases in Indonesia and to gain inputs on decision making and applicable business strategies.

The globalization processes, such as development of technology, communication, and transportation, and shifting of global chain of values have brought a new perception on an unlimited world and global village as proposed by Kenichi Ohmae (1990). In the Global Village, the mechanism of world trade at present is described as a market in a village. This world, which is felt smaller, will trigger a competition that will lead to expansion in global marketing activities.
